HISTORY:
Queens Park Touch Football Association was established in 1977 by
Lee Spooner and Bobby Keyes. This organisation was formed due to the demand of increasing teams in the
South Sydney area which was proving to be "the fastest growing sport (Touch) on the East Coast".
The games are played over two seasons Winter & Summer ,the first competion was the winter season of 1977
which consisted of eight (8) teams (Mens-One division only).
In 1981 a Women's team division
was formed and by 1984 a Mixed comp was established.
In 1990 Bobby Keyes left, leaving Lee
to carry on by himself. With the help of a number of referee's on the committee he was able to continue
the "great competition for the next five (5) years". During this time Lee was ablely assisted by both
Paul Starr and Eric Spooner (Lee's father) then in 1994 Mr Eric Spooner passed away and with the death
of his father and the personal distress Lee decided to pass the running of the association on to two
members/referee's who had been associated with Queens Park Touch for almost 20 years.
So,during
the middle of the Summer 1994/95 season the organisation was handed over to James Squadrito and Bob King,
both these men have been dedicated to the game for the past 25 years.
The game has been running
for 22 years and over this time many famous faces have played, people such as Kevin Roberts, Kevin Hastings,
John Walker, Craig Field, Darryl Trindall and Jim Dymock.
